Thomas E Brown officially opened on March 1, 1960, at the corner of Cameron and Foster Streets in Harrisburg, PA, with a 4-man crew in the body shop and a bookkeeper. Then, the body shop moved to 1924 N 3rd Street in Harrisburg, PA, and was located in the alley behind the main house on the corner of Susquehanna and Delaware Streets. The shop was located in the old carriage house for the funeral parlor (the main house). At this location, the shop employed 2 body technicians and a bookkeeper. This location remained there until the summer of 1969.

The Beginning of Growth
In the summer of 1969, the shop moved to its third location at 4700 Old Gettysburg Rd in Mechanicsburg, PA, and was located in the barn behind the farmhouse. In 1973, a 24 x 50 addition was added to the south side of the barn, increasing the shop capacity to 5 cars. In the summer of 1979, a 50 x 50 addition was added to the north side of the original barn and increased the shop's capacity by another 5 vehicles to an average of 10 vehicles. During this period, Tom employed his wife Cheryl and his step-son Lance Bonsall, along with 3 other highly skilled body men. The shop incorporated in 1995, becoming known as Thomas E Brown.
Continuing to Grow to This Day
From 2002 to 2009, the shop increased its staffing to a total of 10 employees in order to repair more than 60 cars per month. The shop moved to 5030 Arthur Avenue in Mechanicsburg during May 2009, expanding its operations to better serve its growing clientele. This current location contains the most advanced paint booth and unibody realignment systems money can buy. The paint system we use can be seen on the TV show "Overhaulin'" hosted by Chip Foose, which stopped in for a surprise visit recently. Thomas E Brown, "Auto Body Works," continues to be family operated with the same customer service and quality of work this area came to expect from all the years Thomas E Brown has given these many past years – and many to come!
